Over the past year I have tried to change the course of my existence by making a smaller footprint on this earth. Little things, like reducing the use of paper towels, using recycled vegetable bags as short trash bags! "Reducing and reusing" is the name of my game.
I know it’s far from your mind when your shopping, on a mission to look amazing, to think, “How is this leather shoe affecting my carbon footprint?” But I think it’s time we start bringing that thought closer to the closet.
The easiest way to implement a more eco-friendly fashion strategy, is to research fashion companies that are utilizing sustainable practices when producing their garments. Think leather-free, recyclable fabrics and eco-friendly business practices. I’m not saying you have to give up your shopping habit, but I know for a fact that there are ways to be glamorous and green.
My new favorite T-shirts are from Threads for Thought. I was shopping in my local Whole Foods over the summer, and these well cut tops where hanging where I used to by my multi-vitamin! I played with them for a while, tried them on over my clothes, read the label, and decided this is an amazing product & company! These T's are as well fit as the high-priced designers in your local department store, and way more affordable! (Because of this fact I have since acquired five.)
Threads for Thought uses fabrics that are made using the most sustainable materials possible such as organically grown cotton, and polyester derived from recycled water bottles. Fabrics are dyed using low impact dyes. Often, water used in the dye process is purified and then reused. Fabric is cut and sewn into a specified style. Embellishments such as prints, beads, and stones are applied last. Screen prints are often done using K2 water based inks. Other embellishments come from recycled materials whenever possible.
Threads for thought is also involved with major charities, they are a company that is doing good while making you look even better!
