With a season of simplicity, Marc Jacobs Fall '10 collection was a departure from his usual, shall we say...complex designs. With effortless details, tons of glamor and the most heart warming rendition of American sportswear, our (my) favorite designer discusses his passion for design in this month's InStyle.
Highlights from the interview are like ear candy for fashion lovers; he discusses how getting back to "basics" with fashion and the resurgence of close-to-our-hearts fabrics/designs are key and ever-comforting to the soul. He masters a fresh perspective on classic ideas with full skirts and trench coats; stating his goal was to evoke a happiness from women wearing this collection.
Jacobs' talks about his styling muse referring to an old German film called The Lives of Others, where a woman was wearing a simple skirt with a crisp blouse and how chic it's simplicity was; he states "that's what existential beauty is all about." When asked about trends he notices how women want to be apart of a "group," "subscribing to what is accepted," but stresses that getting dressed should be an "emotional thing rather than a ritual."
I wanted to share some of his words because like his clothes, they are simple and applicable to every girl/woman who loves clothes. The wisest words of this interview are apart of the end quote while discussing his love for Brittney Spears' music, "I love imperfection." ME TOO! Sing it sister!
