As rediculous as it seems, the top headlines in the news lately involve famous baby bumps.
As if it isn't hard enough to deal with body image, "we," as in us bump'd up gals, have to face our changing bodies in the wakes of famous faces like Halle Berry, Princess Kate & Kim Kardashian.
The celebrity influence, and how society has set body standards against it, seemed miles away when I go pregnant. I thought, "Great! I don't have to read a magazine or see the 'bikini bod' section of US Weekly and feel envious!" That is, until, Halle Berry showed up on a red carpet as pregnant, if not more than I am, 2 inches shorter, looking nothing short of amazing and FAR smaller than me.
I know what your thinking, "Your not fat!" I know! I know! I'm also not a celebrity, outside of my own mind in my own home...But somehow, it seems relevant to discuss what has been going on in the media with these famous moms-to-be and the message it sends to us normal bumps.
My first bone to pick is with this Kim Kardashion craziness. Didn't anyone get the memo? She's 5'2 at best, she's curvy and honestly, her style has never been one that is to-die-for! While I don't agree with her fashion choices as of late, I also sympathize with wanting to wear anything that makes me feel beautiful on this frame that doesn't feel like my own. It seems as though, for the first time, the media has found a target and a reason to refer to pregnancy as "fat." And you know how I feel about that word!
My second and actually last bone is a general one. I have scoped woman like Ivanka Trump, Jamie-Lynn Sigler and obviously Kate Middleton (is she still a Middleton?), and well, these are gals are working with superior resources.
These woman are able to purchase beautiful, NM clothes, and have them tailored, providing them with supreme flattery on their bumps. And good for them! But we aren't all working on a $10K maternity clothing budget. So my point is this, us more modest bumps, shouldn't feel bad that we aren't glowing in the bask of custom-bump-fitted Tom Ford and diamonds.
The EyeTakeway here is this, as in normal life, we are all individuals, and during this magical time, we should feel as beautiful as ever! Even in the bask of Halle Berry, NO, especially in the bask of Halle Berry:-)
