The first day of Fashion Week is like the first day of vacation, you want to do everything, see everything and really take it "all" in. What can often occur on the inaugural day of vacay/fashion week is a sense of what I call "the sprinter approach." You tend to want to get after "it" quick, but like with any good experience, you have channel your inner marathoner, truly pace yourself for the experience.
I'd like to think I chose the ladder yesterday. I savored that first-day "buzz" and decided that when it came to FNO, it was about slowing down and finishing strong.
So I started my afternoon with a trip to Zara in Lincoln Center with my God Daughter, Opal. We decided she needed a new party look for an event she was attending that day. File this one under "American, Swedish Girl Realness."
I headed down to steps of Lincoln Center and took in the real fashion show; patrons, bloggers and style lovers wearing their Fall's best waiting see and be seen.
After a humid and hot few days, my haystack needed some taming, so I went to my happy place, DeBerardinis, for some blow out love and pre-FNO bubbly. The best part about going to a salon first on Fashion's NIght Out is that you can drink for free (which is the case in most places) while sitting.
Like most FNO'ers who are in NYC, it can be difficult to choose which hood to patron. It is recommended to stay in a general location as with most big nights in the city, as the streets become a grid-locked nightmare. Most fashionistas do not accept subways as a mode of transport on this evening due to heel-height and a general sense of fabulous-ness.
I got an invite from one of my favorite NoLita stores, Poppy. They where hosting Lauren Moffatt and a "Boys & Beers" bash. It was genius, an opportunity to speak with a designer, drink a Brooklyn Pale Ale and shop all while trying not to stare at the girl in the blue tutu.
After a trip down Mott street for some par-oozing and and libation consumption, we fueled our over-shopped engines at Public. FYI, sea trout is the one of the best things I've ever had the joy of putting in my mouth.
My Fashion's Night Out was a success, my best friend was able to tolerate it and make some purchases, my feet didn't explode and I met a designer I admire. Style event success!
Happy New York Fashion Week!!
